Human Resources Associate

The Autism Centers of Michigan (ACM) is Michigan's leading provider of individualized, behavioral-based treatments for children on the autism spectrum. We are rapidly expanding across the State of Michigan and looking for an energetic, talented Human Resources Associate to join our team. The successful candidate will work in a team-oriented environment and engage in a wide range of activities, focused on recruiting, and on supporting the HR needs of our 150+ staff. This position reports directly to our Human Resources Manager, and is based at our Headquarters in Traverse City, Michigan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners with ACM hiring managers to determine staffing needs
  • Posts job openings in online venues, with professional organizations, and in other position appropriate venues
  • Screens and organizes resumes
  • Schedules job interviews and assists in interview process including phone interviews and in-person interviews
  • Audits and creates job descriptions
  • Conducts regular follow-up with ACM location supervisors to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation
  • Ongoing development of a pool of qualified candidates in advance of needs
  • Researches and recommends new sources for active and passive candidate recruiting
  • Build networks to find qualified passive candidates
  • Suggests improvements for the company website recruiting section
  • Researches new ways of using the internet for recruitment
  • Uses social and professional networking sites to identify and source candidates

New Hire Processing and Onboarding

  • Collects employment documentation and tax information
  • Ensures background and reference checks are completed
  • Prepares new employee files in data management system
  • Assists in orienting new employees to the organization
  • Sets up new employee training and monitors progress
  • Serves as a point person for all new employee questions
  • Maintains employee HR files and databases

Other HR and Administrative Duties

  • Assists in payroll processing, PTO tracking, and benefits management
  • Responds to employee questions regarding payroll and/or other issues, as appropriate
  • Answers phone calls from off–site employees and/or client families
  • Supports other corporate initiatives including conferences, events, participating, special projects and training
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Business Management Psychology or related degree required

1-2 years of human resources experience required
1-2 years of human resources corporate recruiting experience required
1-2 years of recent experience utilizing social and professional networking sites such as LinkedIn for sourcing candidates
Knowledge of employment laws and practices required
Experience recruiting for BCBA’s, BCaBA’s, and Behavioral Health Technicians preferred

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)
Professional in Human Resources (PHR)

To effectively perform the duties of a Human Resources Associate, individuals must be able to demonstrate a number of competencies that are essential to the position, which include:

  • Experience with recruiting, technical recruiting a plus
  • Proven candidate sourcing and relationship building skills
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows/Email/Office environment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of various employment laws and practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Ability to work with various departments and foster teamwork
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Skills in database management and record keeping
  • Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of human resources work
  • Ability to travel for recruitment meetings, college visits, and career fairs and maintain a flexible work schedule
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Must be able to effectively read and interpret information, present numerical data in a resourceful manner, and skillfully gather and analyze information
  • Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities as to use time efficiently
  • Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through management feedback
  • Reliable transportation, valid Michigan driver’s license, and satisfactory driving record
  • No convictions for child or sex abuse and ability to pass DSS 1326 clearance
  • Have own phone, or reliable access to messages
  • Meet physical requirements for position, which may include ability to assist in lifting packages, and equipment.

Our BCBAs determine treatment effectiveness based on data. Over time, treatment goals and the methods used to achieve these goals are refined to maximize effectiveness.

We offer support for families that are affected by a loved one’s problem behavior. Problem behavior may range from a mild temper tantrum to severe destructive and aggressive behavior. The Autism Centers of Michigan uses a Functional Analysis of Problem Behavior to determine how to address the concern while teaching your loved one an appropriate alternative behavior.



Our treatments are individualized and our services are delivered one-on-one to ensure that our clients reach their full potential. All of our treatment plans are developed and overseen by Board Certified Behavior Analysts that have extensive experience delivering and overseeing ABA services.
